Before we plunge into this tutorial I have to tell you that you need AbiWord installed in you PC to be able to follow it. The good news is that it is really simple and quick to get it done, just click the “Download” link above. Once you have the installer EXE file in your folders (i.e. downloads or desktop folder) launch it, the InstallIQ manager will guide you through the rest of the process which takes only a few minutes.

So, assuming you have AbiWord ready to go, open the document you want to insert the image into or create a new one. For the first go to File → Open...
and in the explorer like dialog browse your folders for your file and click “Open” once you have selected it.

The next step is to go to Insert → Picture... and again an explorer like window will open where you can select the image file you want to insert.

By default the image will be inserted in the place the cursor is so prior to the selection you may want to place it in the right place, nevertheless, once the image is inserted you can freely move it to wherever you need by dragging it.

An interesting feature is that you can also adjust the size by dragging the grip points on the edge of the image.

And if you want you can also alter the wide-height relation to fit other arrangements. Of course your image will loose realism but is good to know this action can be performed.

If you right click on the image you can select Image... to view the image properties dialog here you can adjust some parameters too.
