GIMP Tutorial #21 – How to Create a Diamond Text

GIMP is an amazing free image editor which stands up as the best (and only) contender in the image editing programs arena. Its impressive list of features, versatility and light system footprint make it a very feasible option to other expensive commercial “big-name” products like Adobe's Photoshop. In this tutorial you'll learn how to create an exuberant diamond text.

My recommendation, as always, is that before starting the tutorial you should have this free image editor installed in your computer. On top of this page you can find a “Download” button that will give you access to the free InstallIQTM installer for your fully-featured latest version of GIMP.

Step one: Launch GIMP and create a new image with a dark or black background (if any doubt check our previous tutorials) it should look like this:

Step two: Create some text using the Text Tool (same as Step one if any doubts) it will look better if you choose a wide font type and use the biggest possible size:

Step three: Go to “Filters” → “Artistic” → “Cubism...” and adjust the parameters corresponding to Tile size and Tile saturation till you get something like this:

Click on OK and the filter will take effect:

Step four: Add some glitter effect by selecting the Diagonal Star brush and drawing some crosses on strategic places and using different sizes like this:

Step five: Using the Circle Fuzzy brush add some more effect to the previously drawn crosses should look like this:

Last step: Merge the text layer down by right clicking on it in the Layers Toolbox and selecting “Merge Down”.

Cool, huh? Just save your diamonds text in the format best suits your needs.
