InstaCodecs Tutorial #1 – Video Decoder Configurations
InstaCodecs is a comprehensive codec pack that offers a full set of DirectShow filters for decoding and VFW compression codecs, it is also capable of carrying out the decompression and processing of a wide variety of video file formats including DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. InstaCodecs is also able of performing audio compression and processing. In this first tutorial ]I'm going to tell you how to configure some of its video decoder parameters.
But before we put our hands on it you need to have InstaCodecs installed in your computer, fortunately this is a fast and extremely easy procedure, just go to the “Download” button above and click on it, once you have the installer, launch it and the InstallIQ manager will guide you through the setup process.

OK, now that InstaCodec is installed, to access the video decoder configurations you have to go to Start → All Programs → InstaCodecs → Video decoder configuration in your Windows Start menu.

The Video decoder configuration dialog will open and it should look like this.

As you can see the Codecs list is show by default, there is no much to adjust here so we will go to the next item: DirecShow control configuration, access it by clicking on it in the left panel.

Here you can find the following parameters:
Merit: This tells the system which filter to use in the case that multiple DirectShow filters are available. Adjust the to give ffdshow a higher merit in order to override other competing filters.
Multiple Instacodecs: Its default setting is “only one - check all filters in graph” and this is to avoid the creation of an infinite loop when processing raw video or uncompressed audio thus this value is recommended.
Don't use InstaCodecs in: Some DirectShow apps and programs (particularly some kind of games) are not compatible with InstaCodecs. So you can enable this setting and add the executable's file name to the list whenever you run into specific applications that show this trouble.
Use InstaCodecs only in: Let's say you want to use InstaCodecs only in compatible programs, then you have to enable this setting. In the list you'll find user-reported programs (by its executables) that are known to work with InstaCodecs. You can also enable the last checkbox to get a warming when non listed apps try to load InstaCodecs.
Finally, when you are done click on Apply if you want changes to take effect and continue with the configuration or click OK and the dialog will be closed.
